Thanks for the answer.

I have just tried again and found the problem - setting UAE's configuration option 'floppy_drive_speed = 0' (turbo mode for floppy disks) causes the game program to crash shortly after it starts loading.

It seems that Agony code is sensitive on timing of reading floppy disks... It is the first such case that I encountered, so I did not expect that (but apparently there are such cases...).

Making that parameter default (which is 100, normal/original speed of reading floppies) allows to start the game properly.

@UAE
I've just tried this in WinUAE on Windows 10 and it runs perfectly using the default settings and KickStart 2.05.

What configuration do you use to start this in UAE (FS-UAE, WinUAE, or whatever-UAE)?
(Amiga model / Kickstart / chip/slow/fast memory/number of drives)

I am having trouble to run this in UAE (FS-UAE) - the disk boots, but after some yellowish intro/info screen, it goes to blue or grey screen (depending on Kickstart 1.2/1.3 vs 2.0) and reading the disk stops.

Possiby my favourite Amiga game. Magazines at the time gave it a whooping 98%. In essence it is a sidescrolling shoot-em -up in a fantasy setting. The setting itself is spectacullar, as it contains some of the best graphics of the time. Those were produced using the techniques employed in the Shadow of the Beast trilogy and were probably superior. The artwork is very inspired and adds to the immersion. Music is top. The style is classical and epic, maching the fantasy setting and conveying a sense of urgency and - in the later levels - doom. Suffice to say, that the composer took the famous Death Metal band Dimmu Borgir to court for copying the intro music (fantastic piano piece).

The game is hard, as was nearly every game those years. The player controls an owl (which is Alestes, a wizzard's apprentice, seeking to stop his master from destroying the world, or something) and faces waves of fantastical monsters on his way to the end. Of course there are no cut scenes and such. Only a few words in the intro screen and what is said in the manual. After you get the hang of it, you can finish it without losing lives. That matters, because power ups aid the player and one needs to be in full life to earn the best of them.

I still own the original. nice big box with not much inside. The game was dull but had great graphics animation and music. 7/10.

I would say the base game is quite fun but I took up the strategy of holding the shoot button which added a delay to going up and down.

I will also say I only got to the beginning of the second level because I personally wasn't enjoying the game by that point since the emulator I was using doesn't allow you to save which meant every time my three lives ran out and I to start back at the first level.

I will also say that the music was quite nice even though first level music is super loud compared to the screen right before it.
Which nearly gave me a heart-attack the first time.

Also, expect to die your first 3 times as it pulls some bullshit.
