Anarchy Online (aka 混乱在线, AO) is a video game published in 2001 on Windows by Funcom Oslo A/S, HD Interactive B.V.. It's a role-playing (rpg) game, set in a persistent universe, sci-fi / futuristic and mmo themes.

Game was amazing when it first came out, but today it's still trying to hold on. I was able to load up my lvl 200 Hunter for old times sake...unfortunately there's nothing to do in the game.

game was WAY too hard to play. you always face one direction. no matter how you move, unless you stop and change your view direction. a pain. game mechanics are weird and esoteric. unnecessarily complicated and unwieldy. you start out getting a lot of stuff, but you have no idea what it is or what to do with it. you don't know how to use it or equip it. i sold off a lot of stuff, only to finally need one thing I sold that I could find nowhere else and couldn't go back and get it to drop again. No way to know what is good and useful and a keeper, or just trash. You are given missions to go get or do something, but no indication of WHERE to go to even look for it.
I thought I was doing pretty good, till I wandered off on a mission and was politely killed by something I could barely damage, and my movement got slowed so i couldn't run. game mechanics are so hard I couldn't heal in battle, and I got so frustrated I just quit and erased the damn thing.

fun com still runs this and has had an engine update to make it a little bit more up to date. free to play also.
