Description of Defiance

Excerpt from CD Mag's review: "When Avalon Hill decided to expand their product line, they created Visceral Productions so as not to scare off... wargamers.

Visceral's first game, Defiance, is a blast-fest [with decent plot]. Initially conceived as a clone of Descent, somewhere along the way it morphed into an oddly appealing mix of Descent and Duke Nukem... In the end, Defiance is an entertaining, intense and involving single-player experience that plays out like a science fiction movie. While offering little new, technically speaking, the solid plot, good controls and well designed levels go a long way to making the game's shortcomings seem less noticeable... it amounts to more than the sum of its parts."

Although I have not tried the RIP version, If anyone wants to install the ISO in 64bit Windows, try this. You will need a virtual machine application (Oracle VM VirtualBox for example) and dgvoodoo2. If you really want to play this very old game, then I guess you are old enough and by now you should know how to use these apps:

-use virtual machine with winxp (or the real thing if you have it....)
-mount and install normally, no need to install directx 5
-copy the installed folder from your virtual machine to a local folder with no spaces
-open and edit the Defiance.ini so that the paths direct to the aforementioned local folder with no spaces.
-copy the dgvoodoo2 files (D3D8.dll, D3D9.dll, D3DImm.dll, DDraw.dll)
-copy the patch files and overwrite any files that already exist.
-keep game ISO mounted and play using D3D.exe
Also:
-no need to touch the registry
-for good measure run the game in one core only (use PsExec.exe utility for example (psexec -a 1 cmd /c D3D.exe))
-you can actually play this quite well from within the virtualbox after installation. Very few games can do this!!!

The game was intended for 640x480 resolution. If you try higher, the graphics become better /clearer but the hud becomes smaller and does not accommodate the screen well -that's just my opinion

thanks for the ISO by the way

Thank you for this awesome effort you guys put forward for us to play our favorite nostalgic games. I followed your directions and tried to install Defiance (1997) on my latest windows 10. Unfortunately, it was asking for the 64-bit version. My question is, is there 64-bit Defiance (1997) available? If so, how can I get it or the patch for it? Really would appreciate it.
