If you really want to buy it, go buy it directly from Wolfire Games. Same for Overgrowth. Otherwise it's free in most if not all Linux distro repos. It runs butter smooth on my 64-bit NetBSD and OpenBSD machines and 32-bit FreeBSD workstation. Consistent 100+ FPS on Windows compiling from source. It even runs decently on my Raspberry Pi 4 (8GB RAM model) running FreeBSD.
Actual gameplay is super smooth and fluid. Playing the tutorial mission is the best way to understand how the controls work. After doing the tutorial, the game is a rather excellent fighting game. I personally find the story rather thin, but still enticing. The way the damage and deaths are done for the game is novel and done excellently. I don't know of any other game outside of this and it's sequel that use this type of character model.

I would say if you really want to support the developer you can pay. But go buy the sequel, Overgrowth. You can install this on just about any Linux distro repo, BSD repo, Homebrew, and from source on Windows. Found this in college, its a super intense and high speed brawler. Love it. I recommend playing this before playing Overgrowth though.
