Not to be confused with the Settlers series, which I did once as a kid to my great disappointment.
While this is a real time strategy, it has a lot more personality and depth than you'd initially think. There's a lot of micromanagement if you like that sort of thing, with resource chains (get one guy to dig up clay and another to make stuff out of it, for example) and getting your little folks to shag each other and make babies, and lashings of CDProjekt/Lionhead studios style smutty British humour.
Now all of this is based on my memories formed as a particularly odd 12 year old, and to be fair I didn't really know how to play games then, but this was one of my favorites. Worth a go as a curiosity at least.
