Final Orbit
DOS - 1990
Description of Final Orbit
Final Orbit is a mundane top-down giant robot action game that plays like the arena portion of BattleTech 1, except a lot more boring and repetitive. Essentially you pilot an egg-shaped robot from top-down, shooting everything in sight on each level. Nothing really makes the game stand out from hundreds other similar games, so you are well advised to stay away unless you simply must own every robot game ever made. Disappointing, and not even fun.

I will say pretty much what I said on Squakenet.com:
Final Orbit was one of many games my brother and I played in that transition period between arcade machines and consoles known as the 'PC store-box casino', where every purchase was a gamble.
Final Orbit is the story of one (or two) galactic garbagemen who have the unenviable task of going to the moon (being used in the 22nd century as a lunar landfill), fighting their way through armies and ambushes of evolved garbage monsters, in order to fire nuclear rockets to keep the moon from crashing into the earth. Sound silly? Yep, and a lot of fun and laughs, too.
This game had, for the time, good gameplay and reasonably good graphics; the artwork and animation made up for the fact that it was a 2-D top-down scroller. If you don't like anything 2-D or from the last millenium, then please move on. But if you like clever, silly artwork, cool powerups, the same in-vehicle/out-spaceman action of Blaster Master, and the teamwork that can come from using the same keyboard and mouse, check this one out.
