Let me tell you about this game.
For the first glance, this is some Warcarft 2 clone. With only water-levels.
But it stands the time better, because of a couple of things, despite the levels being a bit time-consuming (2 hours average is my estimation).
One: it has a good variety of goals besides your usual "destroy everything" objective. It has escort missions, capture missions, destroy specific target missions, pass the map, pass time limit, and many more.
There is a day-cycle. Each day lasts 30 seconds, and this format manages to create tension in an otherwise not very fast paced game. Add to this some excellent pacing, which makes the game unpredictable. Instead of the usual constantly intensifying pressure, the game has maps with much lower pressure in comparison, what makes the game memorable.
It's not perfect, especialy by modern standards, but this is an example why retro-gaming exist.

Yes, it works. Set the compatibility mode to Win98/ME, and never alt+tab.

Riveting you have this. I hope I can make it work. I've never had the chance to finish the last "race", aka. difficulty. Some of the polish games just have this jene-se-qua.
