Description of IndyCar Racing II
The full RIP contains: IndyCar 2006 Carset, WoO Sprint Cars 2001 Carset, GDSR Indy Lights Carset, USAC Sprints, Cart PPG '97 cars, patched Paintkit, two versions of Indianapolis, Bristol, Charlotte, Talladega, and some local short tracks.

I never knew that Cart Racing also existed and is basically the same game. Strangely that one works out of the box on Windows while Indycar 2 just crashes upon launch. Anyway, big thanks to Blask for pointing it out.

Forgot to add START PAINTKIT.bat file for starting the paintkit. Everything else is the same.

Seems that a lot of people have problems starting the game. Here's the DOS Full RIP with additional carsets as a portable version, pre-packed with dosbox 0.74, just extract it and start the game by clicking on START THE GAME.bat
Although this pack is portable, you may have problems starting the game if the path to the game folder is too long. Keep it short - something like D:\Games\ is fine.
Do not extract it on your system drive C:

If you get couldn't find Indycar2.exe
You have to mount game in dos config and in the auto exec section. See CJ NEMETZ as an example.
Where CD stands for change directory or change folder. So if your game was in dos\Games\Icr2 on your computer it would be
Cd dos
Cd games
Cd Icr
Then the name of the game exe to start the game Indycar.exe
If you put a space then -h after the exe (Indycar.exe -h) you get better graphics too.

It's here on MyAbandonware and it's called CART Racing.
You just have to extract the contents of SierraCartRacing.iso to an empty folder and you can start the game from WINDY.EXE
For me it works "out-of-the-box", no compatibility settings and no additional software needed.

Guys, you can find the full version of this on archive.org, and sierra online still has the patches up for download as well, ICR2.net has the mods, check out GPLaps on youtube for a tutorial on how to properly acquire and install this game.

Figured out how to run it, with sound. Make a folder in your C:/ drive called "games"
Place the INDYCAR2 folder in there
Then on DOSBOX:
mount c c:/
C:
cd games
cd indycar2
cd indyca~1
dir
indycar
you can use the last line to launch any .exe in the folder

when this first came out, it had some of hte best graphics for a racing game for it's time. The 3d polygons still look pretty decent now, decades later actually.

Wow! Runs great in DOSbox. Very fun... And very drive-able, unlike a lot of the F1 games out there (just my opinion, folks), old or new. Thanks for making it available again!

you have to mount your C: as directory before it, i have mine in games\indycar2
then i just...
mount c games

cd\indycar2
play
for whatever reason its config is looking for indycar2 as a subdirectory

What do you mean the download has no sound I downloaded the Mac version of the game and it says it's a Mac file. So I can't run the game.

I have ICR2 installed under DOSBOX, and sound works fine. Make sure you have DOSBOX set to emulate a standard SoundBlaster card, and run the ICR2 SETUP.EXE to select this. You may have to try SoundBlaster first, then SoundBlaster-16 etc. but you should find one that works eventually.
One extra tip: If you just run "INDYCAR.EXE", the game will have VGA 320x200 graphics. Try running "INDYCAR.EXE -h" and you should get SVGA 640x480 graphics instead.
