L.A. Street Racing
Windows - 2007
Description of L.A. Street Racing
Description from the publisher:
Put prestige, pink slips and cold hard cash on the line. The finish line! Just make sure you get there first!
The night is yours, the streets are yours and that sucker's ride is going to be yours too, just as soon as the pedals drop and this show hits the road, literally. Just strap in, hold on and don't swallow your tongue, because there's no first and second place here, only winners and losers. Tracks on city streets are lit up with turns indicated by large glowing arrows. Avoid parked cars and other obstacles. Watch out, the hand brake is quite touchy and takes some getting used to, try using regular braking to slow your speed and avoid spinning out around corners. Good Luck!
Features:
- Race through the streets of L.A. while avoiding pedestrians, mailboxes, and parked cars
- Put your car on the line in a pink slip race or compete for cold hard cash
- Rip around corners by using the hand brake or take your time with regular stopping methods

How to play L.A. Street Racing Windows
North American and European releases are identical, the only difference are loading screens and some music themes. Russian licensed version is based on American version
Install & play guide:
- Mount the disc image, you will need the utility for mounting disc image files, like Daemon Tools Lite, UltraISO, Alcohol 52%/Alcohol 120% or WinCDEmu, etc.
- Install the game (if your antivirus triggers on autorun/launcher - just install the game from Setup.exe)
- Also it is recommended to install DirectX 9 from the disc (if you're using Windows 10 - enable DirectPlay, read this or this guide how to do it)
- Launch the game and play. If the game doesn't work - try to launch it in compatibility mode with old version of Windows (98, 2000 or XP)
The game has been tested on Windows 7 64-bit, works with no problem, game supports widescreen. European and American versions works without the disc, for Russian version use NoCD
Notes:
- There is a rare bug when you change the screen resolution - the button of Singleplayer campaign disappears. If that happens - launch Quick Race, then exit from it and Singleplayer button will appear in the Main Menu
- The game works on DirectX 9, so if you're using Windows 8, 8.1, 10 or 11 - you need to enable DirectPlay: Go to Control Panel, and select 'Programs'. Select 'Turn Windows features on and off', click on 'Legacy Components' and check the box 'DirectPlay'. Select OK, once the installation is done, restart your computer
- US version of the game has support for 5 languages: English, French, German, Italian & Spanish. If you want to change the language - go to the directory
LASR/locale
and open file .conf in Notepad. Enter the language you need (en,fr,de,it,sp) and save the file

I have been looking for this game for ages
I've played it when I was a kid
I loved it back then
It gives me so much nostalgia now.

I got "insufficient resources to create target connection", can anyone help me out?

Took me more than a week to complete because the races can get monotone, the same 2-3 layouts per district and always about 15 people to beat to rank up. Played the most of it with a controller, finishing the whole game on keyboard might be doable but harder I suppose

Saw this game on youtube in one of the videos. They recommended old games like this to play, and this one was among them. So I will give it a try later.

The US download has a disc image - easy to install and plays fine on Windows 10.
EU download is a bin file.

My guess is just the branding.
I'm from Europe and actually own this physically. The screenshots have the game show up as Overspeed, while dialogue is in German, so I'm guessing the EU version is called Overspeed, while the US version is called LA Street Racing, as the game's page on this site calls it.
