For small DOS games like Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon, you can play online immediately with your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer...). This feature is still experimental, the game may not work properly. Warning: game save should work, but you should try it early! Also, be careful to select the right game executable in the list below.
Emulator configuration
You have to choose the right game executable, then press PLAY.
To exit fullscreen mode, press escape. Playing experience can be poor due to your browser or your computer. Download Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon and launch it with DOSBox to have the best playing experience!
If the game is too fast or too slow, try hitting CTRL-F11 (slower) and CTRL-F12 (faster).

To build tracks you need to have your your Numlock OFF, then click START at the top, press options 1-2-1 for graphics, sound and keyboard+mouse. Start a new game. When you want to build click F4 to go to detail view, Numlock ON, place the cursor where you want to build the track and use numeric keypad to build the track in the direction you want.

I can't build a track ? it's easy,
Enter the game, enter the map, and press the esc key to jump back to windows.
Press the ctrl key + the shift key twice to confirm entering the language conversion mode (I use Chinese phonetic notation)
Press Numlock to change to numeric mode first
Return to the map, press Numlock again, and use the nine-square numbers on the right to build rail tracks

Run it in DOSBox. Everything works there. Download the preinstalled version. DOSBox is a bit of work, but if you read the help and info screens, you can do it. GL and enjoy this wonderful old game. I spent many happy hours with this back when. None of the later versions comes close IMO.

I loved this game in the past. Can't build track!!!! Why make an unusable game "accessible". Is anyone actually able to play this?

I really loved this game (in the long past) and have tried most everything. But track building (even on tutorial) just doesn't seem to work. I don't know if the "space" key isn't recognized any more. No other combination of keys and directions seems to make it work. The rest seems fine (ok, no idea how building trains, stations, signal towers, consists etc are) but....... this is a link to the "technical manual" from the old game.

Numeric keypad can work, just press 'ESC' key out, and use Numeric key , then go back.
