If you want to run this on Windows 10 or 11 you need to get the installer version like Jimbo says. Run the video selector tool in the game's installation folder and pick a low resolution like 800 x 600. Run as administrator and use windows 98/ME compatibility mode. Only run the game directly from the exe, shortcuts didn't work for me.

I found the same on windows 10 if I installed the patch that's available for download. When I tinkered with the resolution setup app and choose a lower rez, it opened to the program that said fatal error, reinstall the game. When I uninstall and only use the installer version alone without the patch or anything else and run in compatibility mode for windows 98, it worked fine. Seems the patch is a problem in some cases.

Trying to run this game on a Windows 10. The most I managed to get was a black screen for a couple of seconds, immediately followed by the game closing. I'm not sure what needs to be done, though I used the 1.1 Installer. I'll try mounting the ISO and see if I get the same thing.
