Description of Space Hulk
A fun tactical wargame based on Games Workshop's renown Warhammer 40,000 universe, Space Hulk combines a faithful depiction of the excellent strategic choices of a Warhammer boardgame, including authentic space marines and weapons, with adrenaline-pumping action.
The game is played from a first-person perspective, and offers you the ability to control up to 4 marines simultaneously, each with his own 3D view window, through a variety of missions ranging from the straightforward find-and-exterminate to object recovery.
The best innovation in Space Hulk that sets it apart from other real-time games is the unique "freeze time" feature: you are allotted a limited amount of free time seconds for each level, which you can use to pause the frenetic action to give orders to your marines while the aliens are frozen in place. The hectic pace of the game and the fact that you'll have to the action in 4 windows at once makes freeze time indispensable, but the limited amount means that you must budget it wisely.
The missions are fiendishly complex. With different armaments to choose from, you must utilize each weapon's specific features effectively, or things will become rather difficult. Certain missions require you to enter a Hulk, retrieve an item of historical importance and leave as soon as possible without being killed. Some of these missions have strong puzzle elements to them similar to some Warcraft maps, i.e. there is only one effective way to win the level. But the game's wonderful atmosphere (with creepy sound effects) and solid gameplay will keep you glued to the screen, cursing the difficulty while playing it non-stop.
Space Hulk is simply a must-play for every Warhammer fan and real-time strategy lovers.. especially anyone who likes a good, solid challenge that requires both wit and reflexes. Two thumbs up, way up!

The game is full of great atmosphere but the gameplay is not so great. Sluggish movement, badly responsive controls and very high difficulty level make this game above average title.

Get the ISO version, imgmount the iso and install it.Also you may need to change the soundcard in the install program while in there, i set mine to normal soundblaster because Soundblaster 16 had play back rate issues that could be what is locking up the game for those that having trouble. The DOS version is the superior version graphic and sound wise but i like the Amiga version as well without all the noises, its a bit more creepy when there is more silence.Cool game!

I finished all the missions at the age of release of the game, 21 years old. Today I'm trying again and I feel he will never make it :-)))

This game is soul crushing. I loved it when it came out because it was one of the first GW games on PC. I never was able to get far, they programmed the Genestealers to be OP, so I don't think you can win.

I downloaded the ISO version using Boxer, and Boxer claims there is no DOS programs. I have opened the file, and there does not seem to be any DOS programs in the file. How can everyone be claiming how good this game is if it does not work?

PARDONER: you should be okay as DosBox runs under Mac OS. So download DosBox, download game, run DosBox, follow instructions for Mac and it should run ok. Hardware of your laptop is irrelevant, even today smartphones are much stronger than PCs from past :)

Would this work on a fairly recent MacBook Air on Safari? I would LOVE to play this gem. (Sorry for my technical incompetence but I have no experience with anything like this..)

works like charm on dosbox 0.73.
Unfortunatelly gameis horribly boring.
No tension, GS AI absolutely predictable, SM AI nonexistant.
Strong 3 out of 5.

To further add to my last comment, many games will also crash on the intro movie, after the EA logo. I would also press enter to skip this as well if you are crashing on this as well. However, I have found this game crashes quite often regardless of what I try.

Another great old Warhammer game. For those who are having trouble with the game crashing upon the intro (The EA intro with the Games Workshop and Warhammer logo) just press enter to skip the intro. I have not found a fix for this, so unfortunately you don't get to see the intro - but this will allow you to bypass the crash and play the game.

Keeps crashing every while... Which is certainly unfortunate.
Still worth a look.
