How to play Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 Windows
The game with Cumulative Patch has been tested on Windows 7 64-bit, Windows 10 and Windows 11, it works fine. You may experience some small troubles when you play the game on modern systems, check our Guide and Notes for details
Install & play guide:
- Mount the disc image. You will need the utility for mounting disc image files, like WinCDEmu, UltraISO, Alcohol 52%/Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools Lite
- Install the game, choose "Maximum" installation (if autorun doesn't work - simply launch the installation from Setup.exe inside the disc). It is recommended to install the game not in default path, but in some other, non-system folder, like
C:/Games/THPS2, so you won't have troubles with installation of fixes - After you installed the game, install the Cumulative Patch, the installation guide is inside the archive. That patch includes its own NoCD, you don't need to use another NoCD
- Run the Launcher (th2patchlauncher.exe), configure the settings and play the game!
About the methods how to run the game on modern systems:
- Cumulative Patch by DCxDemo is the most recommend method to play Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 on modern systems. That patch showed few generic warnings on VirusTotal, it is safe to use
- Another methods are to use Verok's patch, or install PARTYMOD (Verok's patch wasn't updated for a long time, but it still can be used as an alternative method to run the game)
Notes:
- If the installation doesn't start - try to launch Setup.exe in compatibility mode with old version of Windows (98, 2000 or XP). On Windows 8.1 and newer the installer on the disc may work with issues, so you can simply copy all files from
Setup/datafolder on the disc to some folder on your hard drive, that should work. Or use the repack, it has a simple installer and include all content of English version of the game with fixes - It is recommended to install all versions of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and NET Framework for the correct work of the game. Also it is recommended to install K-Lite Codec Pack for the correct work of in-game videos
- The game works on DirectX 7, so if you're using Windows 8, 8.1, 10 or 11 - you need to enable DirectPlay: Go to Control Panel, and select 'Programs'. Select 'Turn Windows features on and off', click on 'Legacy Components' and check the box 'DirectPlay'. Select OK, once the installation is done, restart your computer
- The game was using SafeDisc DRM protection, which doesn't work on modern systems. Use NoCD or fan patches to remove it. If you see error that there's not enough space on the hard drive when you copy NoCD or fan patch files - re-install the game in non-system folder, like
D:/Games/THPS2, Windows Protection may block copying of files to system folders (likeC:/Program FilesorC:/Windows) - By default the game supports only 4:3 screen ratio resolutions. But you can play the game in wide screen resolutions by using the unofficial patches, both Cumulative Patch and Verok's patch adds support for high resolutions; or you can use PARTYMOD. Alternative method is to use Widescreen Fix by ThirteenAG, to install it simply copy all files from the archive and put in game folder, then open TonyHawksProSkater2.WidescreenFix.ini inside
THPS2/scriptsfolder and changeResX =andResY =parameters to enable the screen resolution you need - If you want to play in Windowed mode, use Widescreen Fix by ThirteenAG (edit wndmode.ini file) or tinyddraw (included in Cumulative Patch)
- Originally, the game was supporting only Windows 95 & 98 systems. If you want to play on Windows 2000 machine, use Windows 2000 patch. That patch is only for Windows 2000 OS and not required for modern systems
- If the game crashes at loading, try to run it through dgVoodoo 2. Usually that issues happens if you play the "vanilla" game without any fan patches, that loading crash is fixed in unofficial patches. To use dgVoodoo 2 copy the DLL-files from the
MS/x86folder, dgVoodooCpl.exe and dgVoodoo.conf to the game folder, next to THawk2.exe. If you want to change dgVoodoo settings, run dgVoodoo Control Panel (dgVoodooCpl.exe) as administrator - If you want to remove the fog, open TH2_OPT.CFG in Notepad and set
FOGSCALE=500. If you use Cumulative Patch, you can disable the fog in the Launcher (th2patchlauncher.exe) - Korean release featured modified English version of the game, with new songs by Fin.K.L. pop band and the 4 members of Fin.K.L. as a playable characters. That extra content is available in additional content pack for Cumulative Patch
- The game had some mods, one of the biggest mods is a LevelPack by DCxDemo, it is included in additional content pack for Cumulative Patch. Plus, you can find some mods in archive of mods from now disfunctional THPS-Mods website. Also, we recommend to check THPSX forum
- The game have a controller support, but most likely it won't recognize the modern gamepads. We recommend to use Cumulative Patch or PARTYMOD to play with the controller. Cumulative Patch has experimental XInput support, and it should work fine with any XInput-type controller (Xbox gamepad or similar). Additionally, try to use one of tools from PCGamingWiki guide for controllers

Hey so the version being sold on retail stores today isnt the original THPS2 its the reamke THPS+2 HD that VV did in 2020 its not the same game and i cant find this game anywhere else

A lot of you in the comments here have no idea what you're talking about. Just because something is "abandonware" doesn't mean it's not illegal for it to be distributed. Abandonware means the IP holder no longer is around or no longer cares to pursue legal action. THAT DOESN'T MEAN THEY CAN'T. With THPS 1+2 releasing, this means that there are A LOT more eyes on the IP, and it can possibly get this site in trouble by Activision. The same may happen to 3+4 in the future when it comes out, so don't be shocked.

Do not try to run by copying this fix. Is broken. Tested on several PCs. The game starts but crashes on loading the first level. There is German no CD in net. The first level is loading, game works, but the game is in German language and when I turn off the game the low resolution stays on the desktop. You need to restart the PC. One right version is PS1 on emulator. Regards :)

thps1+2 is not the same as thps2 on pc, they are entirely different games and entirely different pieces of software to claim so is a outright lie. It is like saying sim city is not abandon ware because a new sim city was also named sim city.

i guess you guys don't understand that THPS 1+2 is a remake, they are not the same as THPS2, as it includes the later movements from Pro Skater 3 and Pro Skater 4, like reverts, and advanced combos.
Stop faffing around and make THPS 2 abandonware again, if you want to play THPS 1+2, play it on console, not on PC.

If it crashes after the menu, here's my tip to make it run:
rightclick the thawk2.exe and got to the compatibility mode settings (windows xp) and set it to resolution 640*480.
Then choose this resolution in the game as well. It won't crash.

The following solution worked for me:
Play the game without using the installer:
1. Create a new folder on your desktop.
2. Copy all game content from the .mdf file to the folder.
3. Overwrite the .exe file in /data folder with the one provided in the nocd crack.
4. Run with windows xp3 compatibility.

Unfortunately I've had no luck getting any further than the level selection. The game just crashes. I've followed all advice but it's still not working. Unlucky I suppose, i was looking forward to playing.

So far i have only encountered one serious issue while playing the game, it always crashes after winning the third gold while playing the character bonus video. This is probably caused by no longer supported video codecs. You can however skip past the video with about 70% chance of getting through to the save career option. The game will crash afterwards in any case, but at least your progress IS SAVED.
Occasionally, the game will crash while in the menu, but that kind of happens to all old games on Win10.

Oh yes, i almost forgot, a lot of antivirus programs tend to identify cracked .exe files as viruses, if the executable suddenly disappears or stops working, check your virus vault and set the file as safe (this example is for AVAST Free AV). Have fun playing

I wonder why there is not a readme for this. Works for most old games
1: Download the Iso
2: Install the game
3. Download the NOCD crack and copy it into the THPS2 folder
4: Make a shortcut of the thps2.exe file
5. RIGHT-click on the shotcut, choose properties, the compatibility tab,
set compatibility to winXP SP3 and check the Run as Administrator. Press OK.
6. Select the shortcut, press ENTER and play the game

This is the pinnacle of of the skateboarding games this is the game im sure that all tony hawk fans have enjoyed and many others who were new to the hawk man i was obsessed with this game it brings back fond memories and wicked high scores .
this game has one of the best sound tracks in video game history boasting a few underrated punk anthems of the time along with a few hip hop tracks .
